What is ACIM?

A Course in Miracles is unique in comparison with other world spiritualities in that it integrates non-dualistic metaphysics into a psychological framework. This combination allows one to look in some detail at the complexities of life as presented by our ego thought system. The Course tells us that we can escape the ego’s negative perception of the world through forgiveness, but forgiveness of a form that looks at the real cause behind our daily habit of judging, condemning, and attacking others. Thus, its major message of universal love lies in the rejection of guilt and the embracing of forgiveness. It is designed to explore eternal truths. Centrally importantly here is its position concerning what we are actually observing in our daily world. The Course asserts that our visual images reflect the major wishes, ideas, and emotions that we hold within our minds.

What isn’t ACIM?

(Modified text taken from K. Wapnick, facim)

“It is not a new religion, church, or cult. Its ultimate goal is that of awakening us to God, our Source.

It is not organized in terms of special persons such as priests, or ministers.

It is not built around the divine figure of a savior, though the loving presence of Jesus within our dream of separation is the source of this teaching.

It is not the Christianity of two-thousand year old tradition, yet its Christian language serves as the springboard for correcting the mistakes of specialness, exclusion, suffering, and judgment that have characterized the teachings of Jesus for centuries.

It is not based on the biblical cosmogony in which God is the world's creator, sustainer, and ultimate redeemer; yet it uses this illusory world as a classroom in which we learn to transcend it.
